XPeng commissioned its IRON humanoid production line on September 8 in Guangzhou, with more than 80% of core manufacturing processes automated, and the first assembled IRON walked off the line autonomously. The company stresses this is line commissioning, not mass production — volume output is still targeted for end-2026, with initial units going to XPeng's own stores and campuses, China deliveries next, and overseas launches in 2027.
Why it matters: This is the first credible 'automotive-grade' humanoid line outside Tesla, and it lands days after XPeng's record raise. The claims (first automated line, autonomous walk-off) are company-sourced; capacity and pricing remain undisclosed, and XPeng has yet to ship a paying-customer unit.

The 2026 summit kicked off day one at Stuttgart's Liederhalle with a sold-out hall of ~500 for the second year running; per on-the-ground notes, the value sat with companies actually putting machines on factory floors, with five separate speakers reporting live industrial deployments. The event bills itself as 1,000+ industry leaders and 40+ exhibitors across Sept 9–11.
Why it matters: The agenda shift — from locomotion demos to uptime, cycle time, and factory integration — mirrors where the industry's credibility test now sits. Expect announcement trickle from European players (Humanoid, NEURA, Hexagon AEON) over the next two days.

Beijing-based Galbot's RoboGesture framework — real-time, speech-aligned gesture generation for humanoids, built with Tsinghua, Peking University and others — is scheduled for presentation at ECCV 2026 today, September 10. The system runs motion generation at 120 FPS via a diffusion transformer, with an MPC safety filter for on-hardware use, and closes the listen→respond→gesture loop in roughly two seconds.
Why it matters: Conversational humanoids (retail, hospitality, reception) are a near-term commercial segment where natural nonverbal behavior is a differentiator; quantitative hardware benchmarks are still pending, so treat the two-second figure as a company claim.
